Love at First Sight
Amanzoe commands 360-degree views of the Peloponnese countryside and rocky coves. The property lies within easy reach of a wealth of archaeological sites and the cosmopolitan island of Spetses. We are around 2.5 hours by car from Athens or 25 minutes by helicopter. The cosmopolitan island of Spetses and the car-free island of Hydra are in easy reach. The resort’s private Beach Club is just under 10 minutes away. It’s situated in a picturesque bay and offers a restaurant, 2 lap pools, spa treatment room and a small gym.
The resort offers 38 free-standing pavilions which are divided in different categories, depending on the size of the pool (either 6m or 12m length) and view. Each pavilion is accessed through a stone-wall courtyard that leads to spacious, high-ceilinged living and sleeping areas. Beds are positioned in a marble-walled alcove which, together with the living area and bathroom, opens up onto the terrace, shaded by a pergola.
The Villas at Amanzoe are situated adjacent to the resort and offer full access to all facilities and services. Each is arranged around a large private swimming pool. The bedroom pavilions are similar to those of the resort, with spacious en suite bathrooms and private relaxation areas. Each villa also features spacious common areas, a large living room, fully equipped kitchen, media/entertainment room, dining area, outdoor dining terrace and often a private pool pavilion with its own massage room. In addition, the 9-bedroom villa features its own Spa, fully equipped gym and indoor pool, various sitting and dining areas. Dedicated Villa Staff takes care of all guest needs.

As you approach the port of Hydra, the magnificent little town opens its arms to you. The statue of Andreas Miaoulis, a local war hero, welcomes you as he stares out to sea. Spanning from the port up the hills, you can see the impressive clock tower of Hydra and beautiful old mansions as far as the eye can see. There is no motor transport allowed anywhere on the island, only donkeys and water taxis provide a means of getting around. Hydra is as impressive in the morning as it is in the evening and has hosted a lot of celebrities like Leonard Cohen. There are a number of things that you can do, from relaxed shopping and dining to visiting museums and historical archives.
The island of Spetses has a long and rich history, but the most interesting period is that of the Greek War of Independence (the revolution of 1821). Spetses was the first of the Greek islands to raise the flag of the Revolution on the morning of 3 April 1821 at the monastery of St. Nicolas. Laskarina Bouboulina of Spetses, a very important and influential person in the revolution, used her wealth to build and lead a navy after her husband’s death. Today, Bouboulina’s house is one of the most impressive places to visit in Spetses amongst other mansions and museums. Spetses is not just about the inspiring history, but also the beauty of the island. It is cosmopolitan yet traditional, a charming combination of quaint streets, pine forests and local charm, where reminders of the rich history of the island are around every corner.

Archaeological sites • 50 minute drive from the ancient city of Epidaurus, a Unesco World Heritage Site, with a theatre still used for performances every summer • 1.5 hours’ drive from the Unesco-protected archaeological site of Mycenae, prehistoric kingdom of the mythical Agamemnon Nafplio • An hours drive from Amanzoe, the seaport town of Nafplio was modern Greece’s first capital Monasteries • The abandoned Byzantine monastery of St Dimitrios is built into the rock-face on the lower slopes of Mount Avgo, near Pelei, around 30 minutes’ drive from Amanzoe • Also nearby, St George at Didima – a small but imposing church with lovely views – is signposted by meteorite holes in the road Island Hopping • Charter one of Amanzoe’s high-speed watercrafts for a full- or half-day tour of the uninhabited isles and secluded coves off the coast of the Peloponnese peninsula • Take a trip to the pretty island of Spetses, known for its seafaring traditions and Venetian and neoclassical architecture • Visit Hydra, a car-free island famed for its vibrant dining and nightlife scene • The property’s boats include the powerboat Amanzoe One, and Aquazoe, a Pershing 62 Trekking • The Peloponnese landscape is a delight to explore on foot. Highlights include the paleolithic Franchthi cave, reached by a coastal hike (about 15 minutes long) 20 minutes’ drive from Amanzoe • Lighter treks include visits to the Bisti forest (20 minutes’ drive away) •Other options include a 2.5-hour trek from the mountain village of Iliokastro through pine forest to Fourni village, and a light circular trek from Fourni to Katafiki Gorge.
