Dating back to 1756, the magnificent Ballynahinch Castle Hotel stands proudly in regal splendour on its 700-acre estate, the breathtaking rugged landscape of thick forest and serenely still lake casting the air with a quiet magic. Set along the Wild Atlantic Way, against the backdrop of the 12 Bens Mountain range, it's no wonder Ballynahinch Castle has a prestigious Condé Naste award to its name. With the sea, woodland, rivers and trails, you will lose yourself here in the beauty of nature
There is nothing more romantic than escaping to a rural retreat of sweeping natural landscapes, embraced by peace and tranquillity, feeling as though you are the only two people on earth. For added indulgence, you could opt for one of Ballynahinch's intimate packages, such as the Duvet Day: A specially prepared room with a luxury duvet, bathrobes, slippers, scented candles, sensual bath oils, chocolates, and room service dinner, followed by a film and hot popcorn. The When You Love Someone weekend package takes indulgence up a notch, with champagne and chocolates on arrival, dinner at the Owenmore restaurant, and breakfast in bed both mornings.
Comprising of 48 guest rooms, around half of them are chic and contemporary, whilst the other half retain the castle's classical style, and are situated in the older part of the Connemara castle. The riverside wing boasts sophisticated suites, and the Luxury Rooms include walk-through dressing rooms and French doors leading to the gorgeous gardens. The Riverside Suites are the most extravagant offerings, with endless indulgent features, four-poster beds and mesmerising views of the river and woodland.
The grounds and activities available are so expansive that you may find yourself never wanting to leave Ballynahinch Castle Estate; hiking trails, fly-fishing, biking – or simply savouring the serenity, listening to the soothing sounds of the river. However, there is so much to explore in the wilderness, and some of the main tourist attractions include Diamond Hill, Connemara National Park, Brigit's Garden and The Quiet Man Bridge, as well as lots of lovely local villages, museums, galleries and historic houses.
The restaurants of Ballynahinch Castle have been the pride and joy of Head Alan McArdle Cooke for many years; the fresh, local, seasonal produce and delicious dishes earning it a place in the prestigious Bridgestone Hote 100: 'There is more than a bit of magic to the Ballynahinch spell, and food lovers will easily declare it as one of their all-time favourite places to eat and stay in Ireland.' The Owenmore restaurant serves elegant yet unpretentious fine dining, and The Fisherman's Pub is a more cosy and casual affair, where you can enjoy homely food in front of the roaring log fire.
