“Lough Rynn Castle and its surroundings are stunning. The room was beautifully furnished and the bed big and comfy. The bathroom had a tub and floor heating which was super nice. We took a walk in the garden park around the hotel and it was gorgeous, I definitely recommend leaving some time for that. The breakfast was delicious and served in a beautiful restaurant with great attention to detail. The staff were nice and professional. We had a wonderful stay here!”

Developed to preserve the rich energy heritage of the Arigna Valley, this thought-provoking museum provides visitors with a unique insight into what coal mining life was like for the locals from its beginning in the 1700s, until its closure in 1990. Journey right up to the coalface to experience what it was like to work in some of the narrowest coal seams in the western world, before exploring the impact the mine had on the local community through a series of moving photo galleries and displays, during a fascinating tour that lasts 45 minutes. Celebrated by former President of Ireland Mary Robinson as a museum which “shows us that history is not about power or triumph nearly so often as it is about suffering and vulnerability”, this faithfully and lovingly restored house and the incredible 4-acre 18th century garden that surrounds it, includes a herbaceous border that is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest herbaceous border in Britain or Ireland.
