Voted by Tripadvisor in 2021 as one of the top 10% of hotels wordwide, Le Manoir du Bois Mignon is a stunning stone mansion and grounds, built circa 1790. It is peacefully nestled in a small hamlet between the banks of the Dordogne river, vineyards and forest known locally as ‘Le Bois Mignon’ or ‘Cute Wood’ from which the house takes its name.
We offer a range of packages, all tailored towards the romantic at heart, from romantic couple's getaways with fine dining, luxrious suites and roaring fires through to whole estate rental suitable for weddings, anniversaries and other romantic or family celebrations. Le Manoir du Bois Mignon, situated in the Bergerac Montravel wine appellation between the medieval bastide of Ste Foy la Grande and the riverside village of Le Fleix, offers 5 luxurious and romantically indulgent suites with spacious guest salons in the main house. Also, situated in Le Manoir’s 2 acres of grounds, is Maison des Vignes, named after the grapevines that grow above its terrace, offering shade from the Summer Sun. Maison des Vignes is a beautiful 250 year old traditional French cottage and properties share a stunning pool and romantic grounds in which to relax and soak up the French summer sunshine.
Le Manoir and Maison des Vignes are truly magnificent and unique properties which have been lovingly restored by their owners in recent years. Featuring a wealth of original period features including large open fireplaces, exposed beams, marble floors and exposed stone walls typical of the area. Le Manoir and Maison des Vignes are furnished with traditional French pieces but blended with contemporary twists. All guest suites in Le Manoir are equipped to a superbly high standard and feature all modern conveniences including super king-sized beds, luxury bed linen, large walk-in showers, heated towel rails and luxury toiletries. The signature Honeymoon suite ‘Amelia’ has 3 rooms and extends to more than 72 square metres boasting a stunning and indulgent free-standing bathtub in its bedroom area.
Outside, the mature grounds and stunning pool with waterfall feature extend to two acres with centuries old trees offering shade and ample space to relax and unwind. There are several terraces dotted around the grounds with comfortable seating areas and tables. Also available for guests who prefer to be more active are bicycles to rent, a table tennis, pool, French petanque court and a traditional English dart board in our outdoor ‘pub’ area. There is also a terrace with deck chairs and beautiful views of the Dordogne river.
Le Manoir du Bois Mignon, which dates from just before the French Revolution, personifies charm and romance from a bygone age with it's opulent salons with antique grand piano, grand entrance hall and staircase and impressive dining room.
Surrounded on all sides by a trio of vineyards producing delicious local 'Montravel' wines, the mighty Dordogne river meandering past and with a backdrop of the beautiful 'Bois Mignon' which literally translated means 'cute wood!'
The 2 acres of park around Le Manoir is full of centuries old trees, mature gardens and vibrant display of fragrant roses giving plenty of space for lovers to hide themselves away...
Our suites are all perfect for romantic breaks. The honeymoon suite covers 72 square metres and is tucked away at the top of the building, giving total privacy and tranquility. All our suites have huge super king size beds with high thread count Egyptian cotton bedding some have bathtubs big enough to share and all come with soft fluffy towels and his n' hers bathrobes.
There is so much for couples to do at Le Manoir du Bois Mignon. From relaxing with a glass of chilled wine by the pool, a stroll hand in hand through the vines, exploring the beautiful medieval bastide towns and local markets, to enjoying an intimate dinner either poolside, in the grand dining room or at one of the local world class Michelin starred restaurants.
For active couples who love to play together, why not enjoy a game of French Petanque on our full size court, or play pool, table tennis or darts in our bar. We also offer bicycle rental to explore local villages. Our guests can even rent a canoe and navigate the stunning Dordogne river. This is one of the cleanest rivers in Europe and is lined with small secluded river beaches where you can stop off and if they are feeling adventurous, go for a 'skinny dip!'

At Le Manoir du Bois Mignon, we have 5 principal guest suites, each named after the first lady to stay in them. While each suite is totally individual in terms of size and décor, all are luxuriously appointed with gorgeous furniture, fixtures and fittings. Each suite has a stunning view, either over the grounds or across to the vineyards and forest of the ‘Bois Mignon’ beyond.
Our suites can all be booked individually so are perfect for a romantic weekend away or relaxing holiday. Alternatively, the whole estate, including Le Manoir du Bois Mignon and our cottage Maison des Vignes can also be rented for larger group functions, including weddings, engagement, renewal of vows and anniversary celebrations. We can accommodate up to 22 guests to sleep at the property but can easily cater for ceremonies for up to 60 guests and receptions for up to 140 guests. We also have great relationships with other local hotels and B&Bs within a 10 minute drive so can easily organise overflow overnight accommodation for big events held at Le Manoir.
All our suites have super king size beds with deep and supremely comfortable mattresses and huge headboards, made up with hotel quality, high thread count linens to ensure our guests have a great night’s sleep. Each suite has a seating area, full length mittors and all have high speed internet connections, complimentary chocolates, bottled water and pool towels. Bathrooms all have large walk-in showers and 3 have separate bathtubs (each with its own resident rubber duck...) big enough for 2 and plenty of bubbles! With fantastic water pressure, heated towel rails, luxury toiletries, hairdryers and of course, plenty of soft, fluffy towels and his n' hers bathrobes!
The Amelia suite is our largest and most indulgent suite, also known as the ‘Honeymoon Suite.’ Amelia occupies the whole top floor of Le Manoir where guests can enjoy total peace and tranquillity. Amelia has its own staircase, leading to an entrance vestibule with 3 rooms leading off. Comprising a huge bedroom with super king size bed, vaulted ceiling and feature freestanding bathtub on a raised platform. Amelia has a separate sitting room with contemporary furnishings, dining table, window seats with views of the Dordogne river, flat screen TV, mini bar and complimentary tea and coffee. The Amelia bathroom has a huge walk-in shower and twin wash basins.
The Heather Suite is a grand and typically ‘French’ room. Featuring a 3.5m high ceiling of whitewashed beams and antique silk wall coverings. The super king size bed has an enormous deep buttoned headboard and the space also boasts an antique crystal chandelier, matching wall lights and seating area. Being dual aspect, Heather is a very light and bright room thanks to the 3 large arched windows which overlook the grounds to the rear and the pool to the side.
The Emi suite is a stunning and very large suite, overlooking the vineyards and forests that surround Le Manoir du Bois Mignon. Comprising of a beautifully calming bedroom with original fireplace, separate bright sitting room with desk, sitting area, comfy daybed and a funky tiled shower room with huge walk-in shower.
The Jordanna Suite, with fabulous views across the Manoir grounds, features a super king size bed and comfortable seating area in front of a beautiful original fireplace. The bathroom features a large walk-in shower and heated towel rail.
The Melanie suite offers superb views of the mature grounds and centuries old trees, and features a super king size bed and cosy seating area with comfy armchairs, footstool, writing desk and chair. The suite features a large bathroom with huge walk-in shower and the benefit of a large, separate bathtub, generously proportioned for 2 people!
For those couples who prefer total privacy for their romantic getaway, Maison des Vignes, named after the grapevines that grow above its sunny terrace, is situated in the grounds of Le Manoir du Bois Mignon but well away from the main Manoir. A detached and fully self-contained 2 bedroom cottage that is more than 250 years old. Originally the guardian’s house for the estate, Maison des Vignes provides well equipped but authentic French accommodation in stunning and peaceful surroundings, overlooking beautiful grounds and the Dordogne river with its own private dining and lounging terrace shaded by ancient grape vines
Despite its rural setting, Le Manoir du Bois Mignon is ideally located for transport links from Europe and beyond. Bergerac and Bordeaux International Airports are only 20 and 55 minutes away respectively. Visiting the beautiful cities of Bordeaux and Bergerac is also a doddle with regular trains from Ste Foy La Grande with travel times of 40 and 20 minutes respectively. The TGV, with fast trains to Paris and onwards is 25 minutes distant at Libourne and within 15 minutes you can be on the A89, Trans European, part of the excellent French motorway network. Airport transfers and local taxis are also available by prior arrangement.
Once here, visitors to the Dordogne valley are surrounded at every turn by rolling fields of sunflowers, wheat, grape vines and orchards which provide a spectacular green and gold backdrop to the beautiful medieval Bastide towns and fairytale chateaux which pepper the region and of course, the ever present and stunning Dordogne river which threads its way across the landscape.
Le Manoir du Bois Mignon is uniquely located to explore the whole region. With some of world’s premier and most famous wine regions on our doorstep, making the area a wine lovers dream. Literally thousands of vineyards and wine producers make up the Bordeaux and Bergerac wine appellations including St Emilion, Pomerol, Bergerac, Montravel, Duras, Pecharmont, and Monbazilliac. Most provide wine tastings, vineyard tours and other events such as BBQs and picnics in the vines during the Summer season. At Le Manoir du Bois Mignon, we work closely with many local chateaux and as well as stocking their amazing wines, we can also organise visits and wine experiences for our guests.
Gastronomy is hugely important to the area, which is renowned for its fresh produce, including walnuts, black truffles, cep mushrooms, fois gras and of course our incredible local cheeses. Restaurants, offering regional and international cuisine, from Michelin starred to casual dining are all within easy reach of Le Manoir du Bois Mignon. We have a good relationship with many of the best local restaurants and can normally secure reservations for our guests, even at short notice.
Markets, a central part of life in France abound in the region. Our local, award winning market, voted the best in France is held every Saturday throughout the year and is 10 minutes away at Ste-Foy-La Grande. Bustling and vibrant, it is a perfect way to while away a few hours in the French morning sunshine or just do a spot of people watching from a pavement café.
The Dordogne valley is a haven for outdoor pursuits and Le Manoir du Bois Mignon is an ideal base from which to explore what is on offer. Walking and cycling routes are everywhere and aside from offering our guests bike hire, we can provide both advice and detailed maps for routes throughout the area. Kayaking is the perfect way to explore the Dordogne river and its crystal clear water with many swimming beaches and several rental centres located within a short drive of Le Manoir. For keen golfers, there are several excellent courses close by, with Golf de Vigiers, one of France’s top courses just a 15 minute drive away.
Other favourite local attractions include the caves at Lascaux, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, incredible gardens such as Les Jardins de Marqueyssac and of course, literally dozens of fairytale chateaux to visit. Slightly further afield is the thriving and ancient city of Bordeaux and for day trips to the coast, the bay of Arcachon with its sandy beaches, dunes, chic boutiques, restaurants and world renowned oysters is around 1 hour 30 minutes away from Le Manoir du Bois Mignon.
To make the most of the beautiful Dordogne Summer sunshine, our guests can choose to enjoy breakfast or dinner outside in our pretty alfresco dining area next to the pool. Guests can chose from an intimate dinner for two or dine in a sociable group. Breakfast is served as a mix of buffet style and table service. It offers a plentiful and delicious choice, including fresh bread and pastries still warm from the boulangerie, fresh fruits and juices, local cheeses and meats, fresh eggs from our own chickens and of course, lashings of freshly brewed ground coffee and speciality teas to help start the day!
Dinner is available several times a week, ‘table d’hotes’ style and we offer either 2 or 3 courses with matched local wines and tea and coffee to finish. Using only the finest locally sourced ingredients and produce, all food is home cooked in our own kitchens.
Throughout the day we also offer ‘lite bites’ served poolside, including tapas and sharing platters and naturally, if our guests work up a thirst, the honesty bar, well stocked with local wines, beers and soft drinks is always open!
The dining room at Le Manoir du Bois Mignon is a very and grand and opulent place to dine. With traditional stone walls, high ceilings, massive original fireplace, large monastery table and of course, ‘Kevin’ the 12 pointer stag’s head, breakfast and dinner are always a memorable occasion at Le Manoir du Bois Mignon.
Hearty and plentiful breakfasts and delicious home cooked dinners are served in our dining room as an alternative to alfresco dining during the Summer months, with the morning sun streaming through the windows and the double doors open out onto the sunny rear terrace.
In Winter, the dining room has an altogether different ambience, being cosy, intimate and welcoming, with a roaring fire blazing and candles flickering. The dining room is perfect for enjoying an intimate dinner and a glass or two of local red wine from our well stocked cave. For couples, we offer a private dining experience for two in our grand salon, again with candlelight, soft music and a huge roaring fire.
The Dordogne region is famous, not only for its world class Bordeaux wines, but also for its gastronomy. Typical delicacies include duck, foie gras, walnuts, cepe mushrooms and wonderful local cheeses If our guests prefer to head further afield from Le Manoir, there are dozens of great restaurants within a 30 minute drive to explore, with the closest being just a 3 minute drive away. We have great relationships with all the local restaurants so can make bookings for our guests, even when not normally available.
