Built by a lovestruck husband as a gift for his wife in 1901, Palmer House Inn began its life on a deeply romantic note, and still stirs the hearts of our guests more than 120 years later. Lovingly furnished with eclectic pieces, as they might have been when new, our three buildings recall that leisurely time of the gilded age, when a holiday by the sea meant leaving the obligations of everyday life far behind. Here, in wonderfully preserved Falmouth Village, discover the fun diversions you normally only read about in books. Take those sunset beach walks, while holding hands. Spoil yourself with magnificent meals at our many fine restaurants. Go ahead, stuff yourself with decadent ice cream. Take a bike ride down a scenic path. Visit a salt-waterfront bird sanctuary and watch Osprey parents teach their babies how to fly. Enjoy a wine tasting event at Cape Cod's own winery. Meet the grandest, gentlest giants on a guided whale watch cruise, or spend a day discovering life on the wealthy, but laid back island of Martha's Vineyard. Love and romance have deep roots in Falmouth, and you will feel that vibe from the moment you arrive.
Many of our guests come to Palmer House Inn to celebrate love, be that a honeymoon, an anniversary, a birthday or an elopement! Choose one of our 17 rooms, each one delightfully unique. Whether intimate and cozy is for you, or expansive and luxurious, with private jetted tubs, fireplaces and Ethan Allen furnishings, we have something for a variety of budgets and needs.
Our public rooms include the turreted living room and foyer with their intimate seating areas, our 1901 dining room with 24/7 coffee, tea and afternoon cookies or pastry, and our main dining room where you will find a delicious home cooked breakfast every day. Our porches with comfortable rocking chairs as well as wicker seating are favorites with our guests.
Tour our storybook grounds, visit our rose garden, lie back on a comfortable chaise and read a book, or have wine or champagne around the firepit as the setting sun paints the sky in pastel designs.
You might also take a leisurely stroll into Falmouth Village and get more of that addictive ice cream. Alternatively, perhaps a sunset sail on a magnificent schooner is for you, with champagne and lobster if you so desire.
No matter what the season, a visit to Falmouth fans the flames of love. Apart from the warm-weather activities previously mentioned, there is a whole world to be discovered in the shoulder seasons and during the winter. For starters, summer lingers longer on the Cape than elsewhere. Warm days persist until mid-November, and it is not unusual to see swimmers enjoying the ocean waves through the end of October and as late as the second week of November.
Thanksgiving Weekend inaugurates the holiday season. Decorations are hung and set up throughout the village, and Falmouth's magnificent antique holiday décor is assembled on its historic Village Green, just steps from our inn. The holidays are a blur of fun, with live music, the Holiday Parade, holiday parties, festively decorated restaurants, decadent food, and way too many calories!
From New Year's to Easter, we welcome couples here to find peace, quiet and quality together time. From winter beach walks and winter bike rides, to intimate dinners, from champagne and chocolates to board games at the big table in the living room turret, this is the time during which visiting couples get away from everything to celebrate being with the one they love. Valentine's day has been so popular, that we make it a practice to have all romance enhancements available for the full month of February to make sure nobody gets left out.
See above.
What is there to say that hasn't already been said or written about love? Many of our guests have made a stay at Palmer House Inn, and a holiday on Cape Cod a surprise gift to the one they love. Some guests have come fully equipped with engagement rings, and presented them in the most romantic settings, such as The Knob, or on one of Falmouth's deservedly celebrated beaches. Fine jewelry has been unexpectedly given during some of these visits. We also have a number of more modest enhancements, such as champagne, chocolates and custom-crafted cakes that you can order in advance, and which will be waiting in your room to surprise the one you love. If you are not sure what gesture to make, we will happily talk with you and offer some suggestions.
