St Michael’s Manor Hotel is set on the edge of the charming Hertfordshire market city of St Albans with its many well-preserved Tudor and Georgian houses and a lively centre that's just a few minutes walk from the hotel. Occupying a handsome 16th-century manor house, on a site that has traces dating back at least 500 years, The five acres of grounds surrounding the hotel are beautifully landscaped in a typically English garden style and include a pretty lake. St Michael’s Manor offers the ambience of a traditional country manor with the advantages of being in the historic city of St Albans, which is just 20 minutes by train from London.

The 30 bedrooms and suites are decorated in an attractive style that combines contemporary elements with traditional English country house touches and some have superb views across the gardens and lake. What to Do
Spend time enjoying the tranquil oasis of the exquisite grounds, with their lake, and enjoy a cocktail or a glass of champagne in the elegantly appointed bar or on the terrace overlooking the gardens. You'll also want to explore the history and heritage of St Albans and a good place to start is the Verulamium Museum which has a splendid range of exhibits describing what life was like in the town two millennia ago in Roman times. The Cathedral, with its glorious mixture of Romanesque and Gothic features, is also well worth a visit.
The Food of Love
The Lake Restaurant serves modern bristish cuisine and is set in an elegant orangery-style room overlooking the garden. Menus change seasonably but you can expect dishes like poached Atlantic lobster with claw tempura, roasted red leg partridge with liver parfait and elderberry jus, and if you can manage dessert - try the anise scented pineapple tatin with cherry ice cream.
