Established in 2004, The Heron’s Rest began as a charming bed and breakfast in the heart of Galway City, known for its intimate and relaxing atmosphere. Today, it has evolved into three distinct townhouse properties that offer modern, contactless stays while retaining the warmth and charm that guests have always loved. We delight in helping couples celebrate their special romantic milestones. One of our favourite memories is supporting our very much in love customer organise trip to the Cliffs of Moher with a picnic. Upon arrival to Hag’s head the couple set out and strolled along the cliffside to a designated picnic spot. Puffins and birdlife soared on the sea breeze and the Aran islands were within view. As they enjoyed their picnic in this romantic location our guest asked his smitten fiancée could he take her hand in marriage she said YES and they had an experience they will never forget. A great way to commit to more life adventures together.

From the 6ft balcony window overlooking Galway Bay, you and your partner can bask in breathtaking sunsets and enjoy the spectacular scenery. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply want to experience life as a Galway Girl and her beau, our accommodations offer the perfect retreat for romance and relaxation.
What to Do
Stroll from our beautiful location on The Longwalk under the Spanish Arch and through the medieval streets of Quay Street and Latin Quarter: Take a leisurely walk hand in hand under the Spanish arch, through Quay Street and the Latin Quarter. The narrow cobblestone streets are lined with colourful buildings, bustling cafes, restaurants, and boutique shops, creating a picturesque and romantic atmosphere. Drop into Dillons Jewellers, Irelands oldest Jeweller for a Claddagh Ring Experience and learn how the ring represents loyalty, love and friendship. Stop to listen to the many buskers or catch a trad session in one of the many busy pubs. On a Saturday morning visit the local market on the steps of St Nicholas’s cathedral where they serve local oysters to get you in a romantic mood. Our location is the perfect spot from which to wander the romantic narrow streets of medieval Galway city.
Watch the sunset like a local on The Longwalk Wall : Enjoy the contents of our gourmet hamper to make a sunset picnic and sit out al fresco on the Longwalk like a local with the deckchairs provided. Savour the sunset over Galway bay and the moon rise over Claddagh, whilst the swans swim by and the river flows to the sea. Watch out for the Salmon jumping and the seals and sea otters that grace our waters at high tide. A perfect romantic way to ease yourself from the day into the evening in Galway City.
Walk the water ways of Galway: Waking up in our waterside location you can view the river and Galway bay from your bed. From our door step take a stroll along the east river bank and watch the River Corrib Europe’s shortest fastest flowing river rushing by under Wolfe tone bridge and O’Brien’s bridge and through the Salmon weir, here you can watch the age old practice of fly fishing and maybe see a lucky fisherman land a prized salmon. Cross the new pedestrian bridge to visit Nuns Island and Galway cathedral. Follow the river onto the campus of NUIG Galway’s university and continue your walk along the leafy river bank where you can watch passing rowing crews, leisure boats and maybe throw down a rug for a relaxing romantic afternoon unwinding. Return to the city via the canals and locks which bring you straight down into Galway’s West End the liveliest part of town packed with great eateries, bars and café’s a great way to wind up your day.
