The Spread Eagle has 39 charming and individual bedrooms - a choice of classic English-style rooms and suites some with four-poster beds, to a more modern, simple design and all with deeply comfortable beds. There are fascinating stories associated with many of the rooms: a secret passage reputedly used by fleeing smugglers, a wig closet that may be the last one left in a hotel in England and a suite said to have welcomed the Queen.

What to Do

Enjoy our gorgeous spa, a swim in our indoor pool and a treatment. Don your walking boots (or cycle) and take time to explore the stunning Sussex countryside and South Downs National Park directly from the hotel. Wander around the pretty market town of Midhurst....or visit nearby Petworth and explore a multitude of antique shops tucked away in pretty lanes. Visit Cowdray ruins within a few minutes of the hotel. Relax in our beautiful lounge and in front of a crackling log fire - enjoy our fabulous gin bar with over 85 gins, experience delicious food.Take a trip to some award winning vineyards or gin distillery. And we can also organise a round of golf at nearby Cowdray Golf Club.

With its inglenook fireplace and welcoming atmosphere our restaurant is a stunning setting or you may like to sit by the fire in our oak-beamed bar or bask in the warmth of our conservatory.

The lounge bar and conservatory are unique and endlessly appealing for a glass of wine, relaxed lunch, afternoon tea or simply to sit a while and read the papers. When the sun shines head outside into our charming inner courtyard or sun-filled terrace.

We use quality, locally sourced ingredients from Sussex on our menu. We have great relationships with local suppliers, some of whom we have been working with for many years. They know exactly what we want and they deliver excellent produce to us every time and this ensures that the high standards we set are continuously delivered - it is a team effort, from field to fork.
