Two Rivers Ohakune

44 Burns Street, Ohakune, Ruapehu, 4625, New Zealand

Love at First Sight

Two Rivers Ohakune is a truly romantic location. Boutique, discerning, discrete and the winner of the 2026 Rising Star B&B of the year award.

At Two Rivers Ohakune B&B, nature and comfort flow together. Our boutique accommodation offers a private and peaceful base, tucked where two streams meet, with views across native beech trees to the summit of Mt Ruapehu. Welcome to a space where mountain, forest and water shape your experience.

With three private, luxury rooms it's a place to relax and enjoy the pristine Ruapehu environment. With an edge of town setting you get serenity and privacy, and yet it is only a short riverside walk to the town centre with its shops, bars and eateries.

When choosing accommodation in Ohakune, at Two Rivers every detail is carefully considered, from soaking in your private hot tub with the river as your soundtrack, to sharing local flavours from your welcome hamper, and sinking into the comfort of luxury furnishings. Your stay at Two Rivers is designed for peace, rest and reconnection.

Romance

As you arrive at Two Rivers you will see your name next to your reserved parking spot. Scott or Ula will come out to you and welcome you, showing you to your selected suite. All three suites are accessed externally, and so you are assured privacy during your stay.

For the ultimate romantic stay, select the Rua Awa Suite, which stands separate and has the highest level of luxury with a private hot tub. Fully refurbished in late 2025, this room has wide opening doors to allow the outside in. Sit on the deck with a glass of bubbles and savour the sounds and sights, or jump in the hot tub for those special moments of quiet pampering.

The Mangawhero suite is also private, the further from the street and closest to the soothing sounds of the rivers. With a private deck and hot pool, you will not be disturbed. Open the curtains in the morning and gaze up to the Majestic Mt Ruapehu. This room is highly-prized by many guests and particularly honeymooners - it is the least overlooked and most private, just right for hiding away from the world and having those special moments...

We shouldn't forget our Mangateitei suite, it's just as inviting and luxurious as the other suites, but without the hot tub. Currently the deck next to this room is occasionally used by guests in the Mangawhero Suite. We have plans to change that experience, but the net curtains still allow you to hide away in an intimate environment while gazing out to the mighty mountain and its snow covered peaks. This room is ideal for 1 night stays if you're passing through, rather than staying a while - and so it may be just the perfect stopover on your wider romantic itinerary....

Your Stay

Eco-luxury, Serenity and Privacy...

Experience a guilt-free stay, knowing you are solar powered. Enjoy your sundeck, relaxing above the two mountain streams, surrounded by gardens restored to native species. The soothing sounds of the rivers in the background, soothing your soul, and preparing you for your mountain adventures. Indulge in luxury accommodation, where you are warmly welcomed and then left to enjoy without interruption. Scott and Ula remain available to support your stay, but with caring discretion.

Number 44 Burns Street is a traditional timber home built around 1910, set on generous grounds in a semi-rural location. From the gardens, you’ll hear the Mangawhero and Mangateitei rivers flowing past, with Mt Ruapehu rising in the distance. For over a century, this residence has been a cherished family home. Since 2010, it has undergone continuous restoration and expansion, always with care to preserve its original charm and elegance.

Inspired by the rivers and mountain views, in 2018, Two Rivers Ohakune opened its doors to guests, blending heritage character with modern luxury. Scott and Ula purchased Two Rivers in 2024, and our story is one of pushing to constantly improve the experience that we offer. In two short years Scott and Ula have added to the luxury of Two Rivers, gained recognition from Tourism New Zealand and won industry awards. Ultimately they are committed to the guest experience, continual improvements and creating something special for all who stay there.

What to Do

The Ruapehu area presents a literal mountain of ideas.. For many, they dream is simply completing internationally renowned Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Rugged, cultural, inspiring, a challenging walk where you can make memories that last a lifetime. From breaktaking views, to steaming lakes, and the history and culture of a double UNESCO world heritage site. The mountain awaits. Ohakune is around 40-50 minutes from the start of the track, and offers some of the best eateries in the Ruapehu area. Complete the walk, eat well, bathe in your private hot tub with the rivers as your soundtrack. Bliss.

There are many shorter walks in the Ruapehu area, from volcanic landscapes, to quiet forest tracks and majestic waterfalls. Some even have a Lord of the Rings connection. We're only too pleased to make recommendations based on your interests.

With an extensive range of cycling tracks in the area, and bike and equipments hire shops just a short walk from Two Rivers, you can explore further and wider. There are options for all cycling levels, passing through ancient beech forest, exploring historic paths, and viewing stunning waterfalls.

The Food of Love

At Two Rivers we recognise and respect the great eateries in Ohakune. Our sustainability journey isn't just focussed inwards, but outwards as well. We love encouraging our guests to engage with the great eateries that we have in town, so why would we compete and offer dining here as well?

It seems unfair to share our favourites when all are so deserving, but our favourite go to restaurant is The Cyprus Tree. With an amazing menu, roaring fire, range of local beers as well as wines and cocktails - this enchanting alpine restaurant never fails to Wow our discerning guests.

Also with an alpine vibe and warm hospitality you will find The Powderkeg a short distance away by car. Some guests want a more relaxed dining experiences, and so with one of the best deck views and range of drinks we present Kings Ohakune. If you looking to mix with locals in an authentic bar and restaurant, where the food punches well above its weight, then Kings may be just right.

And while they are just three of our favourites, there are many eateries for a whole range of appetites and tastes.
