The Villa Malay hotel is set on a quiet street in the Laotian city of Luang Prabang, on a quiet street just a few minute's walk from the Mekong River. The original villa at the heart of the property's two low rise building was built in 1938 by Prince Khamtan, a grandson of one of the Laotian kings. The villa combines 1920s art deco styling with the graceful lines typical of Laotian architecture. Luang Prabang is a picturesque city with a rich history and culture and is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hotel is within easy walking distance of many of the city's historic attractions.
With its beautiful setting at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan Rivers, Luang Prabang is an eminently romantic destination. The elegant and luxurious Villa Maly is an excellent place for romance and it has a special deal for honeymooners. The Honeymoon Stay includes two nights in a Deluxe Room, airport transfers and a bottle of champagne and flowers in your room. You'll also get a candlelit dinner by the pool, a one-hour spa treatment for both of you and a dinner cruise on the Mekong.
The 33 guestrooms have hardwood floors, lively colours and are decorated with Laotian crafts and artworks. All rooms have pool or garden views and come with air conditioning and ceiling fans, flatscreen TVs and wifi. Other amenities include minibars, tea and coffee making facilities and safes.
You can spend lazy days by the pool with a drink or a snack from the poolside bar and the hotel has a day spa, also poolside, with two treatment beds and relaxation and beauty treatments are on offer, including massages. One of Luang Prabang's principal attractions is the Royal Palace Museum, a 15-minute walk from the hotel. There you'll find an eclectic range of historic Laotian artworks and artefacts as you wander through the rooms of this former royal residence. Another highly recommended attraction is the Handicraft Night Market, near the Royal Palace, where you can buy everything from silk scarves and ceramics to silver jewellery and bags.
Le Vetiver is set in a pavilion overlooking the gardens and serves authentic Laotian specialities. You can expect dishes like Tam Mak Houng, a spicy green papaya salad, Or Lam, a vegetable stew including aubergine, beans and black mushroom seasoned with chilli and coriander, and Khao Pun, a rice noodle dish with sweet and spicy coconut sauce with fish, chicken or pork.
