The Victoria Falls and a Luxury Cruiser on Lake Kariba

The journey starts when you board the flight in Johannesburg. On landing in the Victoria Falls, you are whisked away to the magnificent Victoria Falls Safari Club. Perched high on a sprawling plateau, it enjoys views of unspoilt bushveld and spectacular African sunsets. Here, on the border of the renowned Zambezi National Park, guests can delight in the private haven of the Safari Club’s rooms or suites and the magnificent natural beauty of the setting.
Often referred to as the 'Adrenaline Capital of Africa', there is a variety of exciting opportunities, from bungee jumping, grade 5 white water rafting, helicopter flips through to tranquil sunset cruises or lazy canoeing. Naturally there is the Falls themselves and the National Park with all the big game.
A light aircraft takes you along the Lake and lands on an island, where the guide is waiting to take you to the houseboat. Lake Kariba is the name given to the huge body of fresh water which spread 5 200 sq km over the Zambezi River valley after construction of the first major hydro-electric dam was completed in 1959, across Africa's fourth largest river. Lake Kariba is landlocked Zimbabwe’s answer to the seaside: a massive manmade lake that provides a magical combination of water and wildlife. Situated in the north of the country and sharing a border with Zambia, Lake Kariba is best explored by a slow cruise on a houseboat over a few days. Whiling away hours spotting birds, hippos and crocodiles from the deck couldn’t be more relaxing, but you can also spend your days on smaller tender boats or canoes going fishing and spotting wildlife in Matusadona National Park on the lake’s shores.

MV Matusadona is the only motor cruiser of its kind on the Lake. Three spacious, air-conditioned cabins offer accommodation for up to six passengers. Each cabin is made up with a queen size bed and offer an en-suite bathroom. Finished in African hardwood timbers and furnished with rich fabrics, leather and Egyptian cottons, Matusadona has been described as “an intimate luxury lodge on the water”.
