DAY 4 Sardinia Art San Sperate – Assemini – Nora

After Breakfast, please join at the reception A private Transfer with a Private guide will take you To San Sperate Art and nature blend magically in a country that lies in the fertile southern Campidano. San Sperate is one of the most productive agricultural centers of Sardinia, populated by over eight thousand inhabitants, a short distance from the park of Mount Arcosu and the beaches of southern Sardinia. An immense orchard garden, colorful and fragrant, surrounds the village. Renowned is the production of citrus fruits and peaches, to which since 1960 a festival has been dedicated, associated with the patronal celebrations, in mid-July, which include procession, shows and exhibitions of productive excellence, along which honey, and tomatoes also stand out.

The festival is an opportunity to taste malloreddus and panadas, homemade breads and delicious desserts. In the center are 'alive' the artistic processing of ceramics, iron, leather and wood and the creation of jewelry.

San Sperate is a village-museum. Walking there is a dive into art: hundreds of colorful murals adorn the streets telling history, rural traditions and community life. The 'muralism' developed in the revolutionary 1968: Pinuccio Sciola conceived the project of transforming the country into a laboratory of creation to which local, Italian and foreign artists adhered and still contribute. The country has hosted famous musicians and authors of theater, workshops and artistic events, such as 'the river of writers' (2009) and 'Color Identity' (2011). Sciola is the author of the 'sound stones', sculptures that evoke suggestions with sound Ancestral. In the megalithic garden, a tribute to the genius of the Sansperatino artist, stones inspired by prehistoric megalithic art are exhibited. Cultural dynamism is the fruit of the activity of associations organizing exhibitions and festivals such as Cuncambias, at the end of July, which transforms the San Giovanni district into a 'theater', made up of Campidano houses, like the other historic districts. In the center stand out a seventeenth-century manor house, used as a museum, and the nineteenth-century Tola house, designed by the architect Gaetano Cima. The history of the village was born at the dawn of the Nuragic age (XVIII century a.C.). Inside the village was found a model of nuraghe, now kept at the National Archaeological Museum of Cagliari. Conspicuous the Punic remains - four necropolis and ruins of the town - and of the Roman era: it was the civitas Valeria, from here passed the way from Karalis to Tharros. Under Vandal rule many African bishops exiled to Sardinia brought with them relics of saints, including those of the martyr Speratus. In the place where, according to tradition, they were found, the parish church of San Sperate was built in the seventeenth century, inside which a chapel is dedicated to Santa Prisca, celebrated in May for four centuries. To admire a baptismal font with bas-relief of St. John baptizing Jesus and the 'Aragonese' bell tower. I n the Byzantine age, remodeled several times, date back to the church of Santa Lucia, with Romanesque inserts in a Baroque architecture, and the former parish church of St. John the Baptist, a synthesis of Byzantine, Romanesque and Gothic styles: its charm lies in sobriety and harmony. The saint is celebrated, together with the apostles Peter and Paul, at the end of June. The festivals mark the community life: do not miss the corpus christi, balconies and doors are decorated with sheets and tapestries and the streets sprinkled with mint and fragrant flowers.

Assemini instead is one of the most important centers of the hinterland of Cagliari, is the country of ceramic art, around a territory with many attractions. It rises in the lower Campidano, north of the pond of Santa Gilla, in an area sprayed with various streams. Assemini was inhabited since prehistoric times: in the mountain area of Fanebas there are traces of Nuragic civilization. Necropolis of Punic and Roman age, however, are located near Is Tuvus and Porcili Isidori. A document of 1107 reports the name of the judicial villa of Arsemine, which leads to place the birth of the center in the Middle Ages. In fact, the plant of the Byzantine church of St. John the Baptist, with a Greek cross plan, today in the historic center, dates back to the eleventh century. It is of the second sixteenth century, however, the parish church of St. Peter, a wonderful example of Gothic-Catalan architecture. Around it are the road axes of the village made of typical Campidano houses built with mud bricks and straw (ladiri), characterized by arched portals.

Assemini, famous for its artisan tradition, is a pilot center in the processing of ceramics that has qualified it internationally. In the country there are laboratories that produce valuable artifacts. The processing methods are disseminated in the exhibition-market of Craftsmanship. Speaking of exhibitions, on the outskirts, there is the natural history museum Aquilegia, where you will admire paleontological, botanical, geological and zoological finds in reconstructions of lagoon and mountain environments. The center also boasts a delicious gastronomic tradition: for example, panadas, layers of pasta containing lamb (or eels) and potatoes. Crafts, culture, cuisine and also beautiful scenery. Together with the territory of various neighboring municipalities, that of Assemini extends into the oasis of Gùtturu Mannu, 35 thousand hectares covered with holm oaks, mastic trees, oleanders, cork oaks, olive trees and heather: one of the oldest forests in the Mediterranean. There you can take intense walks among animal species such as deer, geotriton, goshawk and wild cat. The park is home to wildlife protection areas, including Mount Arcosu, the largest WWF reserve in Italy to protect the Sardinian deer. Nearby you will also find the San Leone mine, part of the Geomining Park. Finally, do not miss a visit to the lagoon of Santa Gilla, a paradise for birdwatching. By extension and biodiversity, it is one of the most important marsh areas in Europe, habitat of two hundred species of birds, 70 sedentary: herons, ducks, barn owls, knights of Italy, hawks, gulls, kingfishers and, its symbol, pink flamingos.

Departure by car/van to visit Nora archeological site (1 hour approximately).

The complex Su Nuraxi at Barumini is one of the 54 UNESCO World Heritage Sites that can be found in Italy. The site is one of the most complete and best-preserved of the remains left by the Nuragic Civilization; it also is clear evidence of the intelligent use of materials and techniques by a prehistoric community in Sardinia. The ancient Village of Barumini was inhabited over an immensely long period: from the Bronze Age until the Third Century A.D. This magnificent village, dominated by its magnificent central Nuraghe (ancient megalithic structure typical of Sardinia) is also called “Su Nuraxi.” The fascinating particularity of the “Su Nuraxi” complex is that visitors can walk inside the structure and lookout tower, even walk through the ruins of an entire village from a thousand years ago, exploring the evidence that narrates the ancient habits and customs of this fascinating population. DAY 7 Sardinia – Is Arutas – Bosa

After your breakfast, Check out from your Accommodation Today you ‘ll be visiting my favorite places. Is Arutas and Bosa Of course, with Local Private Tour Guide Francesco.

A crescent of colorful quartz grains embraced by rocky cliffs in the center of the West Coast of Sardinia: it is the pearl of the Sinis peninsula.

A dazzling scenery, very special. Hundreds of meters of fine and rounded grains of quartz, declined in an escalation of colors: pure white, delicate pink and all shades of green. The shimmering expanse plunges into the clear sea with iridescent shades, from emerald, green to blue, passing through turquoise. Around a wild landscape.

Is Arutas is the most famous beach in the marine area of the Sinis peninsula, known as the 'beach of rice grains' for the shape and texture of the grains. It is the jewel of the territory of Cabras, whose town is about 14 kilometers away, an inevitable beach in your trip to Sardinia, often included at the top of the international rankings: the experts of Vanity Fair Travellers chose it in 2013 among the most beautiful in the world.

You will reach it passing through San Salvatore di Sinis, a sacred place since prehistoric times, which owes its name to a sanctuary erected on an early Christian hypogeum. The village of Cabrarese was the scene of western films of the seventies of the twentieth century, today you will find parking, kiosk-bar and camping area. The (former) fishermen's huts have become side restaurants of the beach. In the village you will give an alternative touch to the holiday: at the beginning of September, it is the destination of the suggestive Corsa degli Scalzi.

Is Arutas is extending between two rocky spurs: the tip of the same name to the south and bardoni to the north.

Take your smartphone with you or camera: from both ends you will take beautiful photos. And do not forget the diving mask: the seabed is already deep a few meters from the shore and its clarity is a spot for snorkeling. The immediate depth of the waters and the mistral that beats on the western coast makes the beach a destination for wind and kite surfers, even in winter, like much of the Gulf of Oristano.

The name means 'the caves', perhaps referring to the nearby sandstone quarries of the Roman era. The entire coastline, moreover, is surrounded by sandstone rocks, infusing the feeling of a desert. To embellish the panorama contributes the overlooking island of Mal di Ventre, a naturalistic oasis with an unusual shape where sea turtles nest and in whose abysses are hidden wrecks of every era, including one of the first century of .C. Perhaps from the erosion, in hundreds of millions of years, of the porphyry granite of the islet - originally a mountain, when the sea level was lower than the current one - derives the genesis of is Arutas and the two nearby 'twin' beaches: to the north Mari Ermi, to the south Maimoni, also made of tiny fragments of quartz mixed with light sand. To safeguard the three wonders, before leaving the beaches, remember to leave every single grain in place. Mari Ermi stretches for two and a half kilometers, from is Arutas to Porto Suedda. Next to it there are the limestone cliffs of su Tingiosu that enclose beautiful coves. Behind the beach is protected by high dunes and a pond, habitat of pink flamingos. Of similar size is Maimoni, whose name derives from the Sardinian and Phoenician god of water and rain. You will reach it passing through Tharros, where you can combine the sea with a fascinating archaeological visit: it was a nuragic village, a Phoenician colony, a Carthaginian port, Roman urbs, Byzantine capital and, finally, capital of the Giudicato of Arborea. The Sinis is a strip of Sardinia, for large stretches still uncontaminated, which gives the feeling of continuity between land and sea, a natural setting for diving, fishing tourism, sailing and other sports activities throughout the year. In the 30 kilometers of coastline of the protected area, as well as the three beaches of quartz grains, you will find the dunes of white and soft sand of San Giovanni di Sinis. The beach extends in the extreme south of the peninsula, between Tharros and Funtana Meiga. Next to it stands a village, once a fishing village, today a renowned seaside resort. Moving from the coast in the immediate hinterland here is the pond of Cabras and the lagoon of Mistras, stopping points for birdwatchers. The Sinis is also the cradle of ancient civilizations: in the center of Cabras, the Civic Archaeological Museum is not to be missed, which houses part of the greatest archaeological discovery of the late twentieth century in the Mediterranean: the stone statues of the Giants of Mont'e Prama, symbol of the island.

Lunch at leisure.

In the Afternoon Bosa is a must see, with your private guide you will stroll in a charming village where tradition and modernity come together and infuse curiosity and charm.

Your first indelible image of Bosa will be the historic district of sa Costa, made of colorful houses that climb the slopes of the hill of Serravalle, dominated by the Malaspina castle, dating back to the twelfth century. You will reach it on foot: from above, you will admire the panorama of the whole town. The poetic Lungotemo with the Ponte Vecchio riding the Temo, the only navigable river in Sardinia, will accompany your walks to discover the ancient tanneries, which they recall the roots of a very famous center in Italy from the mid-1800s to the early 1900s for the production of high-quality leather. To witness it also the museum of the Conce. Inside the village, focus on the church of the Immaculate Conception, the city cathedral, and its beautiful frescoes. Inside the walls of the castle stands the church of Nostra Signora de sos Regnos Altos, embellished with a cycle of paintings from 1370: here the most evocative celebrations of the Bosano year take place at the end of September. Near the town, in the rural town of Calmedia, stands the Romanesque church of San Pietro extra muros, originally the center of Bosa vetus before the population transmigrasse in the district of sa Costa (Bosa nova), where you will admire sa funtana manna, a nineteenth-century monument in red trachyte. Bosa is the main center of the historical region of Planargia, a place of artisan and food and wine tradition, which welcomes you with a glass of fine Malvasia, one of the most loved Sardinian sweet wines, and shows you its excellences: coral jewelry, asphodel baskets, fabrics, including filet, born from ancient feminine knowledge and, not least, the catch. Another tradition distinguishes the village: the Karrasegare osincu.

The Carnival of Bosa is one of the the most characteristic and populated of Sardinia, it combines the charm of traditional masks with the allegory of modern carnivals. In the mouth of the Temo there is the river marina and next to Bosa Marina, a place much appreciated and awarded every year by the Blue Guide of Legambiente. The beaches of s'Abba Druche, Portu Managu, Turas and Compoltitu complete the scenery of coastal beauties, where you can dive and relax. While if you are passionate about trekking and birdwatching, here is the biomarine park of Capo Marrargiu and the nature reserve of Badde Aggiosu and Monte Mannu.

DAY 8 Sardinia – Alghero – Stintino

After Breakfast please Alghero at leisure. Alghero Fifth Sardinian city for inhabitants (44 thousand), Alghero is the gateway to the island, thanks to the airport of Fertilia, as well as one of its most loved places, thanks to exciting walks along the ramparts of the port, the red roofs that touch the sky and the beautiful natural cove overlooking the emerald sea. Its coastline is about 90 kilometers long, called Riviera del Corallo: here lives the largest colony of coral of the finest quality.

The best-known beach is Le Bombarde: transparent waters, sandy and clear seabed, a destination for families with children, young people and surfing enthusiasts. Just a kilometer away, there is the Lazzaretto, ten coves with light and fine sand. A little further away, inside the bay of Porto Conte, the relaxing beach of Mugoni, golden sand that plunges into the placid waters of a sea that is always calm and crystal clear, a totally sheltered oasis. In the middle of the city, however, there is the splendid Lido di San Giovanni, while, just outside the town, the sand dunes covered with centuries-old junipers of Maria Pia. Much of the coast is protected by the marine area of Capo Caccia - Isola Piana, where hundreds of treasures are kept, including the cave of Neptune, reachable by land, through the Escala del Cabirol, and by sea, with boats that leave from the marina. The park of Porto Conte will captivate you with its expanses of Mediterranean scrub, the rich wooded areas and the Calich lagoon. The domus de Janas of santu Perdu, the necropolis of Anghelu Ruju and the complexes of Palmavera and Sant'Imbenia, are the testimonies of the prehistoric roots of Alghero, starting from the Neolithic. The old town is the most charming part of the city. A labyrinth of alleys that emerge in squares full of life. The yellow walls and ancient houses evoke the Catalan origins of the country. As well as the religious buildings: the cathedral of Santa Maria (XVI century), the churches of Carmel (second half of the XVII), with its large golden altarpiece, of San Michele, with the characteristic-colored majolica dome, and of Sant'Anna (1735), in late-Renaissance style. Speaking of culture, visit the Casa Manno, a research center with a rich heritage of paintings, furnishings, books and manuscripts.

Alghero is famous for coral, which in the local manufacturing art is combined with gold in a happy artistic union. Not to be missed is the Coral Museum, which reveals its history and forms. Among the events, suggestive is the Cap d'Any de l'Alguer, the New Year's Eve, with shows that animate the center. The most passionate time of the year is Holy Week, with the religious rites of the Spanish tradition.

If you wish you could visit the Museo della Tonnara.

Sardinia is surely an island of fishermen.

Especially Stintino, a seaside village set in one of the most evocative views of the north-western end of the island and characterized, as well as by one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, La Pelosa, by the classic 'gozzi' in Latin sail wood. For decades, until the advent of the 'tourist turning point', starting from 1885, the year of foundation of the country by 45 families of Ligurian origin from the village of Cala d'Oliva all'Asinara, the life of its inhabitants has been marked by fishing activity, in particular tuna.

Near the village there has been for about a century one of the rare Sardinian historical traps, while in the village to perpetrate the memory there is the museum of the Tonnara, not surprisingly entitled 'The memory of memory'. Built in 1995, on the outside it is identical to one of the characteristic low houses of the village. Entering it, however, you will do as a dive into the deep blue of the sea that bathes the coast of Stintino.

The set-up revolves around a trap rebuilt to scale (one to 200) of all similar to the ancient ones. In the six rooms you will relive the frenetic and vain attempt to escape the fish that seek a way out among the meshes in the long labyrinth of the nets. Inside the museum you will retrace all the phases and the most intense moments of their capture and learn historical, anthropological and tuna biology notions.

The story begins in the 'big room', where objects commonly used by the crew in the trap are exhibited. The tools are compared with those of other Italian and foreign regions. Inside the historic 'island of the Tonnara Saline' has been rebuilt, faithfully reproduced with a scale model.

You will also admire model 'barcarecci' that made up the fleet. The second room is the 'bordonarello': here you will make a scientific-informative path on the biology of tuna. A map shows the routes of tuna in the Mediterranean while a special section allows you to know the secrets used to preserve tuna. Arrived at the third room, the 'bordonaro', you will take a dip in the past retracing the history of the traps of the Gulf of Asinara, that of the Saline di Stintino. You will know in detail, through fishermen's diaries and historical documents, the organization of the tonnara: tasks of the crew, at sea and on land, and the role of the rais, the chief. Entering the 'museum network' you will arrive at the 'bastard' room, where copies of ancient documents and images are exhibited. The penultimate room is the 'west room', set up with vintage photographs and works by contemporary artists. The excursus ends in the 'death chamber'. An accurate scenography, composed of images, lights and sounds will project you into the atmosphere of the slaughter. On a screen, movies, vintage and modern will immerse you in the 'final act' of fishing. To appreciate all its implications, the visit to the museum is particularly suitable in July, to be combined with the delicacies of the tuna festival.

Lunch at leisure. Fresh Fish it’s a MUST! Take a Private Transfer towards Stintino 40 minutes’ drive.

Lying in the extreme north-western part of Sardinia, Stintino juts out towards Asinara, almost touching it. Right there, where he touches it, he shows his masterpiece, La Pelosa: clear and very low seabed for tens of meters, white and impalpable sand, dazzling and placid sea with all shades of blue.

Next to the 'big sister', there is the Pelosetta, closed by an islet surmounted by an Aragonese tower (from 1578), symbol of the Pelosa. From a 'terrace' on the 'tropical' beach, two hundred meters high, you will enjoy a unique view of Piana island and Asinara national park, unspoiled and wild: Stintino is the nearest boarding point to visit it.

The territory of Stintino is a strip of land between two seas.

To the west the suggestive 'sea outside', with a high and jagged coast alternating with sandy and pebble coves: from Capo Falcone, a wild place also guarded by a Spanish tower (the highest in the Nurra) and overflown by peregrine falcons and the queen, up to Cala del Vapore, through Valle della Luna and Coscia di donna.

To the east the 'sea inside', inside the gulf: low and sheltered coast that from the Pelosa, passing through L'Ancora and the rocks of Punta Negra, reaches the white and round pebbles of the long coastline of Le Saline and Ezzi Mannu. In the middle a natural oasis with ponds (Cesaraccio and Pilo), where live red heron, egret, and kingfisher.

In the beginning Stintino was a fishing village, very similar to Cala d'Oliva sull'Asinara, a village of origin of the 45 Ligurian families, who founded it in 1885, when the Kingdom of Italy settled on the island lazaretto and penal colony, 'evicting' the inhabitants. The village, Municipality since 1988, rises in a strip of land between two inlets - isthintìni means 'intestines' - the ports 'Old' and 'New', where wooden goiters with Latin sail are moored, of which Stintino is 'capital'. Since 1983 it has hosted a famous regatta. The history of the village is inextricably linked to fishing and tuna processing: you will relive it in the Tonnare museum, which stands in the 'Saline' trap, active until the seventies of the twentieth century. Once the main economic source, since 2016 it tells the modus vivendi stintinese: you will make a path along the 'chambers' (the same that make up the nets for tuna), accompanied by original tools and images. After the tonnara, here is tourism. At the beginning of the twentieth century the village was the destination of illustrious Sassari families, such as Berlinguer and Segni, in the sixties the boom: a myriad of tourist residences and hotels arose on the coast. The village, inhabited in winter by a thousand and 600 residents, in summer is populated by tens of thousands of tourists.

Fishing is the basis of the culinary tradition: octopus in agliata and stintinese, lobster soup, tuna bottarga, seafood and fresh fish, to be enjoyed in the restaurants of the narrow streets of the village and the coast is a must!

Dinner at leisure.

DAY 9 SARDINIA – La Maddalena

Buongiorno! After Breakfast. Check in at your new accommodation PALAU HOTEL

you can leave your luggages at the hotel during your Boat Trip.

From the reception call a private taxi to be paid on the spot Private Local Guide will take you to visit the Hidden Harbour.

Poltu Quatu means “hidden harbour” in Sardinian dialect.

An architecture’ s gem facing La Maddalena Archipelago, perfectly combined with the original landscape of the Emerald Coast.

Enchanting views of little white buildings embellished with plants and gardens, a charming place where the harmony between nature and architecture reigns.

For the Afternoon take a Trip by boat to La Maddalena. You can take a ferry to be paid on the spot.

It is the older sister of about 60 islands and islets that make up the archipelago in the north-east of Sardinia, in front of the Gallura coast, the only inhabited within the national park with its historic town, former Italian and American military base.

A road runs along its entire perimeter: 45 kilometers of breathtaking views. Granites and porphyries delimit jagged stretches, inlets, coves and beaches, while the hinterland is made of rolling hills. La Maddalena gives its name to the archipelago of which it is the largest island and to the national park of which it is the administrative center. For a long time, it was the base of the Navy, which is witnessed by the Nino Lamboglia naval museum. The strategic position in the Mediterranean has affected its events: in 1793 the army French led by a young Corsican officer, Napoleon Bonaparte, tried to invade it, stopped by the fleet commanded by the Maddalenino Domenico Millelire. The island attracted, among others, the attention of Admiral Nelson. Today it captures the holiday desires of lovers of natural scenery of extraordinary beauty.

Its inhabited center is the only one of the archipelagos: La Maddalena, founded in 1770, overlooks Palau, which is twenty minutes away by ferry. On the paved alleys of the center overlook eighteenth-century buildings, such as the town hall and the parish church of Santa Maria Maddalena. In the small port of Cala Gavetta stands a column with the effigy of Giuseppe Garibaldi, who lived the last 26 years in Caprera, joined to the Maddalena by the Passo della Moneta and famous for: the Garibaldi Museum Compendium.

You will admire a picturesque landscape along the road of Spalmatore, delightful cove. Three kilometers from the center there is the fjord of Cala French: between Mediterranean scrub and granite quarry, paths lead to discover silent coves and dream beaches. In the southern part, following the promenade of Padule, you arrive at the Eagle's Nest, near the military fortress. Not far away, another wonder, Punta Tegge. To the north, beyond the isthmus of the Strangolato, here are coves made of white dunes and surrounded by rocks shaped by the wind and beaches: unmissable Bassa Trinita, Cala Lunga and Monti d'Arena.

You could also Visit Garibaldi's house in Caprera means discovering something more than the man who played an important role in the history of the Risorgimento and the birth of Italy. We know more about that more intimate and personal dimension perhaps little known among the stories of the story of the Hero of the Two Worlds.

He lived here in Sardinia, he was a great traveler, he wanted to stay immersed in the wild nature of the island of Caprera, among the colors of a wonderful sea, the oldest granites and the fragrant Mediterranean scrub. His house is now a museum that you can visit once you reach the island of La Maddalena and then the island of Caprera connected to it by a bridge.

His house was a farm where Garibaldi dedicated himself to the care of animals, the vegetable garden and the orchard. The original building was supplemented by a wooden house and the "white house", reminiscent of the houses of the South American period, characterized by rooms communicating with each other. Striking is the rather simple appearance of the building, now cared for and embellished with large curved maritime pines and a simple garden. At the center of the garden stands the protagonist of the large pine planted by the Garibaldi weave in 1867 on the occasion of the birth of his daughter Clelia.

The visit to the House of Garibaldi Visit the house without a guide but reading the captions placed at the entrance of each room through the different environments that compose it. The presence of QR allows you to deepen the contents. We visit the old stable where the ancient work tools are kept and the bathtub where Garibaldi loved to wash. A stone stele recalls the Marsala mare with which the General arrived in Palermo in 1860. You then enter the actual house where you move from one room to another, from the bedrooms to the kitchen, and the study rooms, which still preserve the furnishings and objects of Garbaldi's life. Some display cases preserve old memorabilia and everyday objects, weapons and battle objects, the famous red shirt of the Thousand and the poncho. Striking are the wheelchairs and crutches that accompanied the hero of the Risorgimento at the end of his life. The last room houses the four-poster bed where Garibaldi died. In this room you can breathe the end of a legendary man, a lover of nature and it is nice to think that he spent the last hours of his life admiring the sea of the Archipelago that can be admired from this room. The clock hanging from the ceiling marks the time of its exhibition that took place at 6.20 pm. The visit ends with a visit to the gardens, the family cemetery, the olive grove and the boats kept under a porch. Also, in Caprera is the Giuseppe Garibaldi Memorial.

At the Forte Arbuticci, a fortress of 1890, there is this museum that through multimedia technologies allows you to retrace the life of the General through numerous documents and works. From the memorial you can see a beautiful view of the archipelago.
