Ashford Castle

Cong, County Mayo, F31 CA48, Ireland

Love at First Sight

Through the grand stone gates, a royal adventure begins. This remarkable 800-year-old castle, widely recognised as Ireland’s top castle destination and once home to the Guinness family, is exceptional in every sense. Set in 350 acres of woodland on the shores of Lough Corrib in County Mayo, the multi-award winning property has been voted ‘Best Hotel in the World’.

Discover exquisite interiors with unique artwork and sumptuous fabrics adorning each of the 83 individually designed rooms. Enjoy extraordinary dining experiences and fine Irish cuisine; watch hawks soar at Ireland’s first School of Falconry; and restore inner peace and harmony at the state-of-the-art spa. Warm smiles will greet you at every turn from the extraordinary characters of the castle, who passionately care about guest experiences.

Sustainability Efforts

With its elegance and splendour, breathtaking views and decadent guest suites, it’s no wonder that Ashford Castle wins the award for The Most Romantic Hotel in Europe, year after year. Its grandeur enables it to play host to wedding parties of almost 200 guests, yet more intimate affairs are also held here in the divine Connaught Room, which enjoys incredible views of Lake Corrib. Elaborate yet tasteful affairs kiss the air with a classic feel, as this elegant castle moves into a new era of celebrating love in all its glory, and the close-knit team of wedding experts will work closely with you to ensure your day is everything you’d ever dreamed of.

Your Stay

Each room at Ashford castle is tastefully appointed with a traditional elegance and finesse, bringing together the original features of the castle with contemporary luxury. Carefully sourced antique furniture sits alongside unique works of art, with sumptuous furniture, feature lighting, and bespoke beds with Egyptian Cotton bed sheets. The ultimate romantic getaway, the Cottage on the Lake is the perfect honeymoon hideaway, offering a more private escape with your loved one. Originally the site of the old boathouse, the south-facing cottage is both cosy and extravagant, with beautiful old fireplaces, parquet flooring, and a Murano glass chandelier in the decadent bathroom.

What to Do

The expansive estate lends itself perfectly to many a sporting activity, just as it has done for hundreds of years, being the playground of many famous families, such as the Bingham, Browne and Guinness families. Activities include horse riding, fishing, falconry and shooting, so you can lose yourself in the traditions and rich history of the castle. However, fear not - a serene spa provides a serene sanctuary for peace and tranquility. State of the art facilities meet opulence and grandeur, such as the three exquisite seashell chandeliers, and you have an invigorating Hammam, a grand steam room, and endless relaxing massage therapies on offer; your troubles will simply melt away...

The Food of Love

Creative Irish cuisine is the culinary magic at Ashford Castle, and the passionate Head Chef, Philippe Farineau leads the way with his inspirational mission statement: ‘I believe the dining experience begins before the guest even arrives - it has to provoke a sense of anticipation and showcase our exceptional local produce in its finest form.’ The George V Dining Room offers fine dining in elegant surroundings, Cullen’s at the Cottage is a seasonal summer bistro restaurant and The Dungeon serves rich Irish cuisine in an atmospheric setting. Upholding tradition, Afternoon Tea is still served in The Connaught Room, with decadent finger sandwiches, warm scones with clotted cream and jam, and cupcakes that are decorated with hand-picked wild flowers from the castle gardens.
