Ideal for a wedding, engagement or honeymoon, Château de la Barre is easily accessible being less than 2 hours from Paris and 45 minutes from private airports, at the beginning of the Loire Valley, with its famous castles. Transfer arrangements (private chauffeurs, rental cars, helicopter landing, etc...) can easily be arranged.

For unique moments in your life, let yourself be transported back in time... Be it a small wedding in the onsite family chapel followed by an elegant dinner in the XVIIIth century dining hall with all the family silver and crystal, or a large wedding in the gardens with a garden party or a marquee for dancing through the night, the setting is ideal for your once in a lifetime special day. Or be it a proposal *during a candlelight dinner set just for two on the fortification walls overlooking the garden and park after an early evening swim in the large, heated pool, or high tea in the grand drawing room, what an idyllic setting to become engaged. *Honeymooners will love the romantic nights in the large canapy or four poster beds with embroidered linen sheets and of course champagne offered by your hosts. Then bicycling through the buccolic countryside, or, for the more adventurous, embarking on a hot air balloon flight departing at sunrise returning to a champagne breakfast. Then take the elegant chateau picnic hamper full of amazing gourmet goodies to one of the many beautiful gardens of the region, renting a cabriolet Audi A5 to tour the Loire Castles...
Your Stay
The four rooms and three king size suites available to guests are decorated with designer fabrics and XVIIIth century antiques, without compromising on modern comfort as far as lush thick mattresses, towels and linens, toiletries and wifi. Flowers from the garden, champagne welcome for special occasion stays, and portwine grace the rooms, which overlook the fragrant gardens, the sunbathed terrace, and beyond, offer panoramic views over the meadows, the meandering stream and woodlands. The large, heated swimming pool is a key attraction during the summer months, and should the weather be cooler, enjoy croquet on the lawn or the traditional French "boules" on the terrace. And e-bikes await the more active guests wishing to cycle along the untouched, buccolic countryside roads.
What to Do
The warm and international welcome extended by Count and Countess Guy and Marnie de Vanssay is complemented by special attractions Marnie can arrange for you, such as: a balloon flight over the Loire Valley, race car driving on the legendary 24 Hours Le Mans track, discovering the famous castles but also private chateaux and gardens, visiting wineries, farmer's markets, gourmet restaurants...
Chartres as well as the cathedral of Le Mans are highlights of medieval gothic architecture and stain glass windows. The beautifully restored Plantagenet city of Le Mans is stage set to most historic films and visitors enjoy a true time tunnel experience here.
Of course the many world famous Loire Valley castles of Chenonceau, Chambord, Cheverny, Clos Lucé, Chaumont, Villandry, Chinon, Langeais, Le Lude etc... are key attractions. And the various wineries as well, from the Sauvignons of Sancerre and Cheverny to the Chenin Blancs of Vouvray and on to the Cabernet Franc reds of Chinon and Bourgueil...
On the restful side, the region prides itself of having a wide variety of prize winning gardens, such as the romantic shade garden of le Petit Bordeaux, the "most English of French gardens" of Sasnières, the renowned peonies of the Chateau de Sourches etc.
The Food of Love
Upon prior request, guests may enjoy the "Grand Siècle" gourmet dinner hosted by the owners and served by candlelight with the family silver, porcelaine and crystal. On other nights, a romantic supper for two can be arranged in the billiard room, on the terrace or by the pool or in the garden. Or an incredibly elegant high tea with champagne in the grand drawing room... During the day, depart from the château with an elegant picnic hamper stuffed with delicious delights... And for small gatherings or a large event, served in the château elegant dining hall (up to 40 guests) or outside in the open as a garden party or under a marquee, one of our personal chefs or recommended caterers will suggest a variety of gourmet menus. Of course, being in France, there is a wide selection of restaurants from the little gourmet bistrots to Michelin star restaurants.
