Love at First Sight
Linthwaite House is a contemporary country house hotel set on a hilltop overlooking Lake Windermere. Surrounded by 14 acres (5.7 hectares) of established gardens and private woodland, this elegant retreat offers space to slow down, reconnect and celebrate in one of the Lake District’s most beautiful settings.
The hotel’s 36 individually designed rooms and suites look towards the gardens, surrounding fells or the lake. Days can be spent wandering woodland trails, rowing across the private tarn or relaxing on a terrace with views towards the Coniston Fells, while evenings centre around exceptional seasonal dining at Henrock by Simon Rogan MBE.
With romantic turndowns, garden picnics, private moments at the Tarn Cabin, thoughtful celebration touches and licensed wedding spaces for up to 50 guests, Linthwaite House is a natural choice for honeymoons, anniversaries, proposals and intimate Lake District weddings.
Romance
Romance at Linthwaite House is thoughtful, personal and beautifully connected to its surroundings. Couples can share a picnic in the gardens, take a rowing boat onto the private tarn, enjoy cream tea in the Tarn Cabin or return to flowers, Champagne, handmade chocolates and a romantic turndown.
The team is equally at home creating one unforgettable moment. For a recent proposal, they worked with a guest to arrange a treasure hunt that ended with the all-important question and a very happy “yes”. Proposal experiences at the Tarn Cabin can include candles, Champagne and flowers, with bespoke floral styling available for the cabin and viewpoint bench swing.
For the ultimate romantic stay, choose a Fell Suite with Hot Tub: an expansive hideaway with floor-to-ceiling windows, open-plan bedroom and living space, a fireplace and a private outdoor hot tub.
Your Stay
Each of the 36 rooms and suites is individually designed, with views over the gardens, Lake Windermere or the surrounding fells.
The most romantic option is a Fell Suite with Hot Tub. Averaging 66m² / 710ft², these suites feature floor-to-ceiling windows, an open-plan bedroom and living area with fireplace, a king-size bed, and an en-suite bathroom with bath and walk-in shower. Each also has a private outdoor hot tub. Guests are escorted by golf buggy along a gravel lane past the tarn, making arrival feel wonderfully secluded. Selected Fell Suites can accommodate small dogs, subject to confirmation with reservations.
Classic Rooms start from £270 per room per night in the 2026/27 low season; rates vary by room type, dates and availability.
What to Do
Make the most of the hotel’s 14 acres of gardens and woodland with gentle walking trails, croquet, boules and outdoor chess. Take one of the rowing boats onto the private tarn, pause at the Tarn Cabin, or simply find a quiet viewpoint overlooking Windermere and the Coniston Fells.
Bowness-on-Windermere is close by for lake cruises, shops and cafés, while the wider Lake District offers scenic walks, cycling routes, historic houses and some of England’s most memorable landscapes. Spa treatments can also be arranged for an unhurried afternoon of relaxation.
The Food of Love
Henrock, created by Simon Rogan MBE, brings the Lake District landscape to the table through seasonal ingredients and beautifully judged menus. Couples can dine indoors or on the terrace overlooking Lake Windermere and the Coniston Fells, while the Bar & Conservatory offers cocktails, relaxed dishes and afternoon tea.
Romantic touches can be arranged around a stay, including homemade chocolates, cakes for two, chocolate-dipped strawberries, Champagne and a garden picnic. For something especially memorable, enjoy cream tea and sparkling wine for two in the Tarn Cabin. Wedding menus range from a five-course Henrock dinner for an intimate “Simply Us” celebration to bespoke three-course wedding breakfasts for exclusive-use events.
