Villa Soleil belonged to Piero Giacosa (1853-1928), brother of the famous librettist and writer Giuseppe Giacosa. A surgeon, scientific researcher, art enthusiast and painter, Piero inherited this property and used it as a summer residence to spend peaceful vacation moments with his wife Laura and daughters.
Piero expanded the "Cascina" starting in 1895, which led to its current configuration. To the old farmer's house with arches, elevated by one floor, the other two bodies were added in an "L" shape at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, which indeed have a vague "liberty" style in the inner courtyard. Same style as the decorations in the dining room, with the "L" as a guiding motif, named after Piero Giacosa's wife, Laura.
The room called "Una partita a scacchi” (A game of chess) with the fireplace and the Savoy coat of arms, has a medieval ceiling dating back to the 1400s. The signatures of Arrigo Boito (1842-1918) and Giosuè Carducci (1835-1907) on the fireplace in the salon are just one of the testimonies of the illustrious art and culture figures who frequented the Giacosa family.
The territory
THE MORENIC AMPHITHEATER OF IVREA is one of the most relevant complexes of glacial origin in the Alps, both for its extension and for the extraordinary level of preservation. Extending over an area of approximately 600 sqm and with altitudes ranging from 200 to 850 m, it was generated during the Quaternary Era, in the Pleistocene (from 1.65 million to 10,000 years ago), by the erosion and accumulation action carried out by the Balteo Glacier: an imposing "river of ice" about 100 km long and about 800 m high, coming from the Aosta Valley, from the southern slopes of Mont Blanc.
Villa Soleil offers its customers exceptional gastronomy: in a cozy and well-kept environment, among coffered ceilings, fireplaces, and ceramic stoves, "il Ritrovo dei Poeti" (the Poets’ Gathering), our restaurant, was born in 2010. Where over a century ago distinguished figures from the scientific and literary world, such as Giosuè Carducci, Arrigo Boito, and Antonio Fogazzaro, used to meet, now we offer special, intimate, or business dinners, both cases difficult to forget. The "il Ritrovo dei Poeti" restaurant at Villa Soleil is located a stone's throw from Ivrea and offers a carefully prepared Italian cuisine. Hotel guests can enjoy dishes from the traditional Canavese and Piedmontese cuisine, as well as seafood and vegetarian options in a rapid succession of seasonal variations. We accompany our dishes with a selected wine list chosen from the local excellences. Come and discover the taste and flavors of Villa Soleil
